Acclaimed actress and Sunday Times best-selling author Celia Imrie recently revealed her love for cruise travel. In a segment on ITV’s This Morning on Friday, 9th October, the Bridget Jones star announced that she only ever visits the United States by ship, sailing from Southampton to New York, when working across the pond.

In the interview, Imrie explains her love for slow travel, opting for quality experiences and comfort over speed. The actress lists jet lag as one of the main reasons for her preference towards cruise ships over flying.

In recent years, slow travel has become a popular tourism trend, particularly within the cruise industry. Like Imrie, passengers are prioritising relaxation to avoid burnout and fatigue that can sometimes accompany long-haul travel.

Dave Mills, Chief Commercial Officer, said: “We’re seeing increased demand for transatlantic crossings. These unique sailings offer the opportunity to visit destinations such as the US and Canada, without having to fly. Many passengers enjoy embarking from right here in the UK, with sailings from Southampton available year-round. Popular cruise lines include Cunard, Norwegian Cruise Line and P&O Cruises. What’s more, some of our MOST popular transatlantic sailings go both ways - you can do a back-to-back crossing with a day in New York, or sail on a 30-night Caribbean voyage, crossing both ways with no need to fly”.

Other benefits of a transatlantic cruise include fantastic onboard amenities and entertainment, world-class dining and comfortable, spacious cabins. Popular cruise ports include New York City, Halifax and Orlando. Selected specific sailings also visit destinations in Iceland and Greenland.
