Ambassador Cruise Line buys Oceania Cruises ship as it announces new German cruise brand
Ambassador Cruise Line has announced the acquisition of Oceania Cruises’ Sirena and plans to launch a brand-new German cruise line, Ambassador Kreuzfahrten.
The 670-passenger Oceania Sirena will become part of the Ambassador Cruise Line fleet in 2028 and will be renamed Ambella.
The announcement, made on 23 September 2026, marks a major expansion for Ambassador Cruise Line as the company prepares to enter the German cruise market.
Oceania Sirena will continue to operate for Oceania Cruises until spring 2028 under a leaseback agreement.
After that, the ship will transfer to Ambassador Cruise Line and be renamed Ambella.
Ambella will become the first ship to operate for the new Ambassador Kreuzfahrten brand, which has been created specifically for the German cruise market.
The ship will offer an adults-only cruise experience with a fully German-speaking onboard operation.
Ambassador says Ambella will be based in Bremerhaven and Kiel during the German summer cruise season.
What is happening to Oceania Sirena?
For anyone familiar with Oceania Cruises, Sirena will not immediately disappear from the Oceania fleet.
The ship will continue sailing as Oceania Sirena until spring 2028, when the planned transfer to Ambassador takes place.
This means Oceania guests will continue to be able to sail on Sirena before the ship begins its next chapter as Ambella.
Sirena is one of Oceania Cruises’ smaller ships, making the acquisition particularly interesting for Ambassador as the company looks to establish its new German cruise operation.

Once the transfer takes place, Sirena will be renamed Ambella.
The new Ambassador ship will have a capacity of approximately 670 guests and will operate exclusively for adults.
Ambassador says the ship will offer a fully German-speaking guest experience, alongside personalised service, dining and destination-focused itineraries.
The smaller size of Ambella will also give the ship greater flexibility when it comes to choosing ports.
According to Ambassador, the ship will be able to visit some destinations and ports that can be less suitable for larger cruise ships.
Ambassador says the new brand will combine its existing approach to affordable quality cruising with a German-speaking onboard experience.
The new cruise line will be aimed at adults, including German couples, experienced cruisers and river cruisers looking to try an ocean cruise.

The first German programme is expected to run between May and September 2028.

Ambassador has announced a new long-term partnership with the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE), the organisation behind Semester at Sea.
The programme allows students to combine university study with international travel, using a passenger ship as their campus.
Ambella is expected to host Semester at Sea programmes for approximately eight months of each year outside the German summer season.
The first programme is planned for September 2028 to April 2029.
What does the Sirena acquisition mean for Ambassador Cruise Line?
The acquisition will increase the Ambassador fleet from three ships to four.
Ambassador currently operates Ambience and Ambition as its UK adult-only cruise ships, while Renaissance operates within the group’s French and fly-cruise programmes.
The company has also recently brought its French operation under the Ambassador Croisières name.
The launch of Ambassador Kreuzfahrten in Germany is therefore the latest stage in the cruise line’s wider European expansion.
Will Ambella sail from the UK?
At the moment, there has been no announcement that Ambella will operate from UK ports.
The plans announced today specifically identify Bremerhaven and Kiel as the ship’s German homeports for the summer programme.

For UK cruisers, that means the new ship is currently being positioned as a German-market operation rather than another UK-based Ambassador ship.
