Amadeus River Cruises has announced that Amadeus Douro, an elegant new hybrid river ship, is set to debut on the Douro in 2028. Sailing between March and November, the ship marks Amadeus’s entry into one of Europe’s most sought-after river cruise destinations, offering guests an immersive journey through the spectacular landscapes of northern Portugal.

Purpose-built to navigate the Douro’s winding passages and historic locks, Amadeus Douro will combine signature Amadeus elegance with innovative hybrid propulsion technology. Designed to deliver an intimate and refined cruising experience while reducing its environmental footprint, the ship will invite guests to journey through one of Europe’s most enchanting river valleys, where terraced vineyards, historic villages and sun-drenched hillsides create a setting unlike any other in river cruising.

“We are delighted to bring the Amadeus experience to the Douro, one of Europe’s most beautiful and culturally rich regions,” said Corina Lueftner, Head of Sales at Amadeus River Cruises. “The Douro Valley has become an increasingly popular destination, and with Amadeus Douro we are excited to offer our partners and guests a truly immersive way to explore its extraordinary scenery, wine heritage and historic towns.”

Designed with the signature elegance that defines the Amadeus fleet, Amadeus Douro will accommodate 111 guests in 54 staterooms and two suites, most featuring the line’s signature drop-down panoramic windows or private balconies. Spacious public areas invite guests to relax and enjoy the ever-changing scenery of the Douro Valley, whether from the expansive open sun deck with its swimming pool, inviting lounge area and bar or the popular Café Vienna, a popular social space on board Amadeus ships.

Culinary experiences will highlight the flavours of Portugal, with refined gourmet cuisine complemented by locally sourced wines, allowing guests to discover the rich gastronomic traditions of the region while sailing through its iconic vineyards.

The ship will operate a collection of carefully curated itineraries along the Douro, including round-trip journeys from Porto that explore the historic wine-producing region stretching toward the Spanish border. Further details about the ship’s design, onboard features and inaugural itineraries will be revealed in the coming months.

Amadeus River Cruises recently participated in the CLIA RiverView Conference in Amsterdam. Between 7th and 10th March, Amadeus Riva hosted 100 agent partners overnight and 400 agents visited for the day and enjoy ship tours and product presentations.
