Is booking an inside stateroom on Sky Princess a clever way to stretch your cruise budget, or will you end up feeling cramped and boxed in?
We recently spent two weeks living in cabin C317 on Deck 10 of Sky Princess to test out whether an inside cabin delivers proper value for money.
After dozens of cruises and hundreds of days at sea, we have learned that choosing the right stateroom can make or break your holiday, especially when balancing space, budget, and onboard practicalities.
An inside cabin on Sky Princess offers exceptional value, clever layout design, and surprisingly generous storage space. Cabin C317 on Deck 10 features comfortable sleeping arrangements, modern OceanMedallion keyless entry, and ample room under the bed for large luggage, making it a spot-on choice for budget-conscious cruisers who prioritise comfort and functionality.
First Impressions & The OceanMedallion Door Experience
As soon as you walk down the corridor towards cabin C317 on Deck 10, you are greeted by a sleek touchscreen display next to the stateroom door.
The ship uses Princess Cruises' OceanMedallion technology, which senses your approach and automatically unlocks your door before you even touch the handle.
It makes arriving back at your room with a drink or armful of shopping completely faff-free.
Every now and again, the door sensor can be a tad temperamental and might fail to recognise you standing there.
When that happens, simply hold your physical Medallion token directly against the sensor at the bottom of the display screen, and it unlocks instantly.
The touchscreen also handles your room status preferences, allowing you to toggle "Do Not Disturb" or "Make Up Room" options.
When activated, a clear red banner shows up on the external screen so your room steward knows your status at a glance.
Curiously, you cannot adjust these settings from inside the cabin itself; you have to set them on the panel outside before heading off.

We took a cruise on Sky Princess in April 2022 out of Southampton for 14 nights and we visited France, Portugal, Spain and Gibraltar. We opted for an Interior Stateroom and found it more than adequate for our trip. FULL inside cabin review!

Cabin Layout, Sleeping Area, & The Head-Bumping Hazard
Stepping into cabin C317, you immediately face a full floor-to-ceiling mirror, perfect for a quick outfit check before heading out for dinner.
Just to the left of the entrance mirror, you will find the main air conditioning controls, which kept the room temperature spot-on throughout our journey.
Although there were just two of us, Princess allocated us a quad-configuration cabin equipped to sleep up to four passengers.
The extra sleeping options come in the form of fold-down upper Pullman beds mounted into the side walls.
When not in use, these beds fold flush against the wall, leaving the main double bed as the primary focal point of the room.
The main bed itself was genuinely lovely and yielded some of the most comfortable sleep we have ever had on a cruise ship.
On either side of the bed, you get a small bedside table with two drawers and an overhead reading lamp.
A major plus point for us was the integration of built-in USB charging ports right on the base of the lamps, making phone charging super handy.
If you need standard wall outlets near the bed, there are hidden plug sockets situated directly behind the headboard, requiring either a US or European adapter.
However, we do have one practical warning about this four-person cabin layout.
If you get out of bed a bit too quickly in the dark, it is very easy to knock your head on the folded-away Pullman frame protruding overhead.
Tom managed to bump his head a few times during our stay, so you definitely need to keep your wits about you when waking up!
Storage Space: How Much Can You Actually Fit?
If you worry about storage inside an interior stateroom, Sky Princess will pleasantly surprise you.
We reckon the storage design in cabin C317 is brilliant, offering far more room than many larger balcony cabins on other cruise lines.
Under-Bed Clearance: The space beneath the main bed is exceptionally generous. We easily slid three large, hard-shell suitcases underneath without any struggle. You will also find spare blankets and extra pillows stowed underneath if you need extra bedding.
Wardrobe & Hangers: The main open wardrobe area provided the largest collection of clothes hangers we have ever encountered at sea. There were loads of them, along with space for lifejackets and five plush complimentary bathrobes for use during the voyage.
Shelving & Cabinets: Adjacent to the wardrobe, there is a tall shelving tower that offers plenty of room for folded clothes, shoes, and daypacks.
In-Room Safe: A dedicated cabinet houses the digital safe. While it is not the largest safe around, it easily accommodated our passports, wallets, and small cameras.
The sheer volume of storage options means you can completely unpack and hide your luggage away for a clutter-free living space.
Just remember to double-check every shelf, corner, and drawer before disembarking, as it is easy to leave small items behind in all those nooks.

Desk Area, Tech Outlets, & The Great British Kettle
Directly opposite the bed sits the primary desk console, complete with a massive wall-mounted mirror and a flat-screen television.
Because our cruise departed directly from Southampton, Princess equipped our stateroom with a proper electric kettle alongside tea and coffee-making facilities.
This is a cracking touch for British cruisers who love a proper brew first thing in the morning.
On embarkation day, the ship had actually run out of tea and coffee sachets from the previous cruise leg.
We had to wait until our cabin steward performed the evening turndown service at around 7:00 PM to get our initial hot drink supplies.
The desk unit also integrates a compact mini-fridge, which worked brilliantly for keeping bottled water and small snacks cool throughout the trip.
Inside the top desk drawer, you will find a fixed hairdryer.
While it dries hair decently well, Tom noted that the cord length was a bit short and awkward to manoeuvre while styling.
During our sailing, Princess provided complimentary face masks on the desk, noting that guest services would supply more upon request.
Mask-wearing was completely optional onboard and down to personal choice during our two-week itinerary.

Bathroom Tour: Powerful Showers & A Quirky Design Flaw
The en-suite bathroom in cabin C317 is compact, yet thoughtfully designed to maximize every inch of usable square footage.
While it features a fabric shower curtain rather than a glass door, the shower cubicle itself is deceptively spacious.
Crucially, the curtain did not cling to you while showering, which is a massive win in our books.
The shower pressure was surprisingly powerful and hot water was instantaneous throughout the entire cruise.
Princess supplies refillable Lotus Spa shower gel and face wash dispensers inside the shower, which were topped up regularly by our steward.
At the sink, you also get Lotus Spa hand wash and moisturising hand cream, along with fresh face flannels and bath towels replaced daily.
For electrical devices, the bathroom wall features standard US shaver points and a two-pin European socket.
We found that standard UK electric toothbrush chargers will not fit directly into these sockets without a specific shaver adapter plug.
Storage within the bathroom is excellent, boasting multi-tiered open shelves both above and below the vanity counter.
There are also sturdy hooks mounted on the back of the bathroom door for hanging toiletry bags or towels.
However, we did discover one hilarious design flaw in the bathroom layout.
The toilet paper holder is mounted extraordinarily far away from the toilet bowl itself, requiring a serious stretch every time you use it!
Medallion App Hacks & Booking Turndown Service
Navigating stateroom services on Sky Princess is tied closely to the Princess MedallionClass app.
By opening the app and navigating to the "Food, Drinks & Shopping" section, you can access the "Stateroom Amenities" menu.
This feature allows you to request extra clothes hangers, additional pillows, or fresh towels directly from your smartphone.
One essential detail to keep in mind is that evening turndown service is no longer automatic on Princess Cruises.
You must manually request and schedule your preferred nightly turndown time through the Medallion app, via your stateroom TV, or by visiting guest services.

For value for money, practical design, and sheer comfort, we would gladly book an inside cabin on Sky Princess again without hesitation.
